10/8/2010 Golf Couse Maintenance Update
This is the August maintenance update. Over the last few weeks we have been incredibly busy. It is quite outstanding what has been achieved from my team. We have successfully applied the latest legal insecticide (Merit Turf) on all tees, aprons, and fairways 9 to 18, fertilized all tees, aprons and fairways, sprayed the greens with a disease preventative, continued to strim and spray the tree trunks, applied a new thatch reducing product (TC5) on certain tees, greens and aprons, and continued with the cutting and presentation of the golf course. The greens are slowly getting better and are stimping around 7 and a half feet (medium pace), and are being cut at 4mm. I am trying to cut away the huge amount of poa on the greens and this height prevents the poa from seeding and inturn germinating and spreading.
Over the next few weeks we will verti-cut the greens double or triple in some cases, apply a low dosage fertilizer on the greens, try and finish the spraying around trees and driving range, divot the tees, apply another preventative for diseases on the greens, and continue with the cutting of the grass. The weather has cooled down a lot and we have had over 50mm of rain over the last 4 weeks. This has inturn allowed the grass to grow again, so the fairways are slowly getting back there colour. Though some areas are desperately poor. I hope you are enjoying the golf course again, and all the hard work that goes into it.
David
